Edinburgh Zoo opened in March 1913, and is owned by The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland. Edinburgh Zoo is set in 82 acres of parkland, and is located 2 miles to the west of Haymarket station.

With over 1000 rare and endangered animals to see, a busy programme of educational events and activities - ranging from keeper talks through to hands-on animal encounters, a fantastic gift shop, and free hilltop safari rides, you’re sure to have an exciting day out.

Edinburgh Zoo work with many other zoos and conservation agencies in the UK, and around the world in coordinated conservation programmes, to ensure the survival of many threatened animal species. They also support various conservation projects in the wild through funding and expertise.

Edinburgh zoo is one of Scotland’s top visitor attractions, with over 600,000 visitors a year, and open every day of the year including Christmas Day.
